The friendly servers call out orders by name, greet patrons like old friends, and create a relaxed environment where you can enjoy your meal without any pretense. Plus, the venue regularly features live music, adding a lively backdrop to evenings without the overwhelming noise that might deter some. It’s a gathering place that encourages you to savor both your food and your company in equal measure.
That being said, some guests have noted the portion sizes lean towards modest, especially given the quality and pricing of the meals. While the food's deliciousness and home-cooked vibe consistently impress, a few have wished for more generous servings—particularly with entrées like the shepherd’s pie and turkey dinner, where smaller scoops of potatoes left some still hungry. However, the overall value still shines thanks to the warmth of the service and the genuine flavors presented on the plate.
If you’re seeking a no-fuss pub experience where the drinks are reasonably priced, the service is heartfelt, and the food feels like a comforting embrace from a home kitchen, Colleen’s Pub is a rare find in the Halifax area. Whether you’re dropping in for a casual drink, a wholesome meal, or joining friends to enjoy live music, this welcoming spot invites you to be part of its community—from the first bite to the last sip.

I always get takeout as I don’t enjoy the loud band . The food has always been delicious but the portion size is HORRIBLE . Last time we ordered from there my husbands shepherds pie was CHILD SIZED ! Was still hungry after he ate it . Same with my turkey dinner - it delicious but you only get one small scoop of potatoes . For the cost of these meals they should be good size !
I cannot believe the welcomeness and generosity that Coleen sends to her community. The kindness and selflessness are unmatched. A beautiful person and an amazing establishment. 6 every day
Ok, to be fair, Colleen's Pub is what I expected. A friendly server who knows everyone that comes in the door. I had the Big Brunch. The value was excellent and the steak was better than expected. The scrambled eggs were the worst I've ever had but i didn't expect much. The bologna was done in the oven, so it was uniformly roasted, but not the most enjoyable. The bacon was excellent and don't just like I would have wanted. The coffee tasted like Folgers, but I got a refill. My spouse and son both had the Basic. I will stress, that even though I may seem that I was not pleased, the breakfast I had was amazing for the cost. There were people coming in constantly and they were all getting great service. I would recommend Colleen's because what they do is important and valuable for the community.
If you prefer a place where people go because they prefer to be seen …don’t freakin go to Colleen’s. You want to eat real home style food. You want a drink at a reasonable price. You want servers that make their living giving great service ? You want a place without gambling machines. And on top of that live music several nights a week. This is the best kept secret in Halifax. I don’t need to say more. This is absolutely my new favourite place in Halifax. Corned beef. Hot sandwiches. A wicked egg salad sandwich. Fired Clams. Fresh cut fries. Fish. Steak. You just gotta go. No pretence this year just a solid food experience. And tip the musicians
First time at their newer location. Nice little spot but the parking isn't a typical lot. There's a few spots up by the actual restaurant, I just parked along the street as it was busy. There is a ramp and would be wheelchair assessable, lots of room inside. We went for wings night, I got their hoagie sauce which is a mix of medium and honey garlic. I feel like there was more honey garlic on this order than I've had in the past. I do like that you can request all flats! This makes me happy. The wings were small, more like university wings, back when they were 10cents a wing. I would say they were just ok, they did feel over cooked, but not that they were dried out. I also ordered a large potato skins. They did make a mistake and only give me half order. The waitress noticed right away so they just did up another half order for me and packed it to go. The potato skins were good. And they were a great price. Only $8 for half order, and that's what's in the picture. Bathroom was clean but I could only get cold water. Service was great. Both waitresses were really nice.
Did you say Pub? A home style pub ? With great service, very friendly staff, and of course Colleen. Personally served by Ms Colleen. Good food, great live music by George Wolf. Real authentic East coast home style hospitality. A must place to visit in Dartmouth/Halifax area.
